Inspire – High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Shepherds Park School, we are dedicated to recognising and cultivating our high potential and gifted students, ensuring every one of them has the chance to excel.
We design our classroom practices to support and enhance the learning of our high potential and gifted students.
We proactively identify our students’ learning needs in the classroom and apply evidence-based teaching strategies to challenge and extend their abilities. We offer personalised learning pathways, including enrichment, extension programs, and acceleration where suitable.
Our classrooms provide nurturing environments that foster a strong sense of belonging and encourage risk-taking, creativity, and collaboration among all students.
Our teachers regularly engage in professional learning to effectively meet the diverse needs of our students, including those who are high potential and gifted.
At Shepherds Park School, we recognise that every student is unique, and we provide flexible and diverse opportunities for them to explore and develop their strengths beyond the classroom.
- We offer a variety of whole-school programs that promote student growth.
- We identify and support students with high potential through targeted enrichment, extension, and extra-curricular activities such as Personal Interest Classes critical thinking workshops, as well as STEM and VET.
- All our students, including those who are high potential and gifted, are encouraged to assume leadership roles through participation in student representative council leadership, mentoring programs, and peer coaching.
- We celebrate and nurture student talent through school musical prgrams, dance and drama groups, visual arts programs, music ensembles, and design and innovation groups.
- Our students have the opportunity to engage in sports training squads, coaching sessions, and differentiated Physical Education programs.
At Shepherds Park School, we have access to statewide and NSW Department of Education support for our high potential and gifted students.
We facilitate participation in local, state, and national competitions and events, enabling our students to explore and expand their talents. For examples to customise for our school context, see System level opportunitie
